With Cam's recent side work he's done lately we aquired some random material. What I would call junk. However, Zach see's it as an opportunity to, in his own words, "use his imagination". So a few nights ago I heard the banging in the garage and decieded to pop my head out and take a peek. It's Zach's new pride and joy and he feels quite accomplished with it. I L.O.V.E. to see him "filled up" with contentment. Here's to a fun imagination night with daddy, something that I know has made a permenent memory mark on all our hearts. Thanks Zach for stopping me from throwing the "junk" away...in doing that, you have made all our hearts full. Again, to a daddy that every little boy should have....We're so glad WE have you as ours!

Parade of Homes

We took our last opportunity for the year and decided to tour the Parade of Homes over the weekend. They started off with the Amblance~oxygen masks and EKG readings...then moved their way over to the M.A.I.N. event...the Fire Trucks...to see these little boys explore was so much fun. Sam let them take over, bless his heart and they went to town...almost literally! When asked what their favorite part of the day was....

Zach says, "Wearing the headphones while driving the fire truck!"

Dawson says, "Getting on the fireworks truck..." it think he says that because of the lights and sirens!

We ended with a hike in the hills...the "funny" moment in the day (Lord knows we always have a t least one) was when Dawson had to go #2 and I luckily took my purse with me, where I then found an excellent way to use up the extra coupons I got from the store! The funniest part was I didn't realize he was going #2 until I pulled up his overalls and out dropped his "droppings"!!!!! Fun times and great memories that will forever be in our hearts!

Thanks Sam!

~A Carnival Birthday~

Sorry for not blogging lately, I had "issues" with this site...but I think we're back on working terms...so here it goes!

This weekend, thanks to friends and family we threw a huge birthday bash for the boys! Most days I ask the boys what they want to learn about. I've found that their attention is kept much better when they choose something of their interest at that perticular moment. This time it was elephants~how better to learn that they eat grass and travel in herds, then to actually BE the elephants themselves? So I got creative with what "crafts we have left"....voila' the cutest elephants I've ever seen!

Mother's Day was fun! Cam never understands why I love to work. I don't quite understand it myself either, but when asked what I wanted to do...it was work, on the yard, that is. Here's the work in progress! I'm thrilled with so far!

And last but not least. The monster truck pancakes...I asked them what kind of pancake they wanted one day...not realizing that this would be an every time thing... well, here it is. The Ultimate Monster Truck Pancake!

That concludes the end of this very random blog~enjoy the pics!

The Latest Attractions...

We have tons of kids all about Zach's age in the neighborhood. Well, being that we homeschool we are outside exploring first thing in the morning. Whether it's riding bikes, boxing with the giant gloves, or just having a good time...we're out and enjoying the beautiful weather somehow most of the day. I think the kids watch out the window for our garage door to open. We no more open up the door and they flood out to greet us. Of course Z&D soak it up! They LOVE company to play with!

This morning was no different! Cam brought home a 3 1/2 foot bull snake that was run over last night, the kids all gathered around to investigate it. Cam's idea to have it hang out of the garbage can for our garbage men to be greeted by it, was all to hilarious! I was told by mom's around that their kids woke up extra early to see the shock on the garbage man's face! I'm still laughing out loud about it! So, after the garbage guys were clearly out of the way....we went out.

Today was fire fighter day! I lit fires all over the front yard (with chalk of course) and the kids all got turns "putting out the fire" outfit and all! I also had them build a dam for me. I had a little water leak and they banned together to help me "fix it". So, I hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed playing with them. They keep my creative side alive and thriving...they truly are a joy to watch! For those that couldn't come out, they enjoyed watching from the inside constantly reminding me that they were there (by banging on their windows)....needless to say the recent request was that Zach's mommy homeschools them too!!!! :)

A Boulder Celebration

We celebrated a bit early (due to the craziness around here these days) and went to one of my favorite places for my birthday...Boulder! I love it because there's a little bit of everything in that town. From tiny little vintage stores to American Eagle from mom n pop resturants to my all time fav The Cheesecake Factory. I guess it's the closest thing to "home" (Cali) that I've found so far. It's a place where you can sit and be completely entertained by the mixed variety of people and the crazy things they do! In the few short hours we were there we "observed" the hippy era, bums of all shapes and sizes, a really young kid playing the violin like I've never heard, a harp player, a guy putting a show by taking randoms out of the crowd and memorizing there zip codes and there phone#'s like crazy and last but not least the little riot and march of those wanting to "legalize the drugs of there choice! Hilarious! The mountains are a step away and the town actually has COLOR! Which I have been missing, due to the crazy weather we're getting!

After stuffing ourselves with dinner and cheesecake the day just couldn't end yet...how could we be so close to the mountains and not truly enjoy them? So, we ended with a rock climb and views that we're indescribeable....I welcomed in 26 as best as I possibly could! Hope you enjoy the pics!

Goodbye...

Well, it's offical! Cam gave his month notice at his work on Thursday. Goodbye months of traveling, the daily 7-6 shift, the office drama and goodbye commute! We're so excited about what he's going to embark on...the next 22 days are going to go by all too slow.
Lots of change around here! We are starting our new MLM July 1st, and we're SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited....it's been a long wait, but well worth it! Mona Vie here we come, watch out! :) So with new schedules coming soon, I'm trying to figure out how to revamp our current routine. The boys love their daddy being home. They won't quite understand that daddy will have to work while he's home. But, I'm hoping to keep them both busy enough with swim lessons and t-ball that they're so worn out by the middle of the day...they might even take a nap...I know, wishful thinking, but I sure hope so!
That's all here. We're
embarking on something we once treaded and doing it with more support then ever before.
However, I was taken back for a moment today when asked, "Are you excited?" Yeah. Sure.
Then in the back of my head as I said the previous words...a still small voice spoke, very quiet.
Do you trust me? "Yes Lord, of course I do..." it was at that moment that I had to do a heart check. Do I trust Him? That question often arises when situations come that are out of our control completely. When life is cruising we don't hesitate at that question. But, when something arises that we're not sure-footed on we really have to think about it and I don't know about you, but for me I have to mentally give it over to God...probably 20 times a day, for weeks on end.
He has always shown Himself faithful to us, always. One thing i always remember is F.E.A.R. (False Evidence Appearing Real). Jesus didn't lay down His life for me to take an easy path in this life. He wants to show me and you who He truly is in every situation both good and bad, challenging and rewarding and He wants and deserves every ounce of credit in it. So, in this transition time of my life I'm whats best described as the game of Do You TRUST me? Remember that game, you fall backward and have someone catch you. Completely vulnerable I stand to the One in Control of everything! I know He won't drop me! And I'm looking forward to both the challenges and the blessings that this period in our life will bring.

A Thankful Heart: Part 2

After the "bug" we all had the privledge of sharing this past week, we thought we'd take advantage of the gorgeous weather today!

We headed to church and then quickly came home to spend the day on the dirt bikes.

Here's a few pictures of our day~we ended it with some ice cream at Cold Stones!

Have a great week! Let me explain, you probably know where this is going...
Monday night Cam and I were headed upstairs to go to bed. Walking up the stairs the smell hit our noses and my dry heaving reflex joined in...yes, our sweet little guy had thrown up in his sleep and was sleeping in it. Lord only knows when it happened sometime between 8-10:30. He was asleep! So I go to start the bath for him and the water is freezing...it finally dawns on me that they were playing in the basement and probably turned off the water heater. Sure enough!
No bath and swimming in you know what! So that was the 1st night, 2nd day/night was Dawson's turn. This is what I found amazing...it didn't phase him. We were playing outside and he threw up and then went and played until the next episode...my turn, Cam's turn, Zach's turn again and then finally Dawson's turn 2 more times. Two rounds of the stomach flu in a week, Lord knows how many loads of laundry done and then carpet cleaned...I hope I can offically say we're healed of it all! I'll spare you the sight of this one! Just needed to take a moment to vent. Yes, from the title you can probably guess what the subject of my venting is. Poop. So, Dawson is potty trained, but wears a diaper at night...he's not quite ready for "big boys"(that's what we call underwear around here) at night. Sometimes mom doesn't get him out of his pull ups first thing in the morning. From now on...I will.
Lately, it's just been dog poop I've been picking up outside. Which might I add, is the most Rank smell ever. I dry heave just thinking about it. But, this morning Dawson had a surprise for me. I can still hear the schreak of Zach saying, "MMMMOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!" running downstairs, thinking someone just got their finger bit off, my nose was greeted by an all to familiar smell, one that I haven't had to deal with for a while now...
Let me fill you in on the scene, Dawson standing on the couch, pull-ups down around his ankles along with his pj pants and Zach yelling "look at all this poop mom!" Oh, it was bad, really bad, really really bad. So I quickly removed him from the couch and into the bathroom where I told him to stand still. I quickly retrieved some wipes and went into the bathroom. In the meantime, Dawson deceided to climb up on the toilet...poop was already all over his legs. Just imagine for a moment what the toilet might have looked like after he climbed up there...yeah, enough said. My appetite is done for the day. Guess that's what I get when I wait to put his big boys on!

Here and Gone!

Mimi finally arrived for a visit! Our only hesitation to this "idea" is that Zachary gets sooo excited for any animal that he doesn't realize being picked up by the neck doesn't feel very good. Well, after pondering and a quick phone call to some friends, here he is. I must brag for moment because this little, yet big black lab is amazing! We potty trained him in a day, he adjusted right away to all the craziness in our house (which if you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing is overwhelming at times) and other then a few "nipps" (puppy bites) when the boys are running around with him, he's one very sweet, non-hyper, obedient little guy!

A Waiting Game!

Yikes...this week already feels like a long one. I guess that's probably why God is allowing it...I'm well aware of the need of improvement in that area.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Valentines Day...I'll be spending mine with 2 out of the 3 men I'm in love with!

Our Nightly Routine...

I'll let you in on a night time routine in our home...mind you, a home filled with boys.

Right before the boys get a bath at night and just shortly after dinner, the shirts come off....

The office turns into the boxing ring and the music is pumped up...

I (mama) turn into the ref and away they go, as daddy says,"they're learning to protect themselves and eachother"....So, amidst all the chaos or Dawson screaming "am I beedding (short for bleeding)??? Zach, who was 3 then, has been riding a bike without training wheels since last spring. Cam, knowing Zach's love for things that go fast, told him that if he learned to ride his bike really well and also saved his money (he's collected cans from everyone we knew and off the street too) that he could get a dirt bike....yes, I said it, a dirt bike at 4!

Most parents think it's insane, I would too, if I didn't know how talented Zach is in this area.

Not to brag this time, it's just how he's put together! When this all began we started with the intent to teach him about saving and about money in general. He caught on quickly and every can he spotted both empty and ones the were still full he wanted to save and take home. So after countless bags from ourselves and others in support of this idea (thank you very much) he has offically saved enough! The bike is ordered and on it's way to be delivered this week, here's the gear he also got this past week! More pictures coming soon....

Cam's taking off a few days this week to make a vacation out of this whole experience!

Some Thoughts on Home Schooling

It's been 5 months since Zach and I took the road less traveled and began our home schooling journey. As many of you know and have experienced yourselves, Zach is very high energy! Going into the task I wasn't sure how it would all work out. Much to my surprise it's gone incredibly well. My sister April sent me a list for "What Kindergarteners Need to Know" before they enter at the school (the school is known for it's HIGH expectations). I can offically say that after 5 months Zach nails all of them, some exceptionally well! From ABC's to # recognition (1-25) he also signs as well too (I'm teaching him sign language)!

As an added perk, Dawson has caught on too....he has his ABC's down and can count up to 18 as well as tell you his phone number (even though he doesn't know what it means) ! I'm excited! And, well, quite proud of my little ones! So, hope you don't mind my bragging on them! I guess I wasn't sure if I could play the role of "mom" and "teacher"... another bonus to that is that, I've met a few other moms doing the same thing! So, we're able to get the social part taken care of very well too! I go back and forth in question of whether I'm doing the right thing...but, I know I'm doing the right thing now, it's been an awesome experience so far, it has it's "days", but I wouldn't do it any other way. I've learned a lot about me in the process of it all. Especially the areas that need changing...had I not taken this on, I would've never known.

One last thing, there's been no greater joy for me then to be able to have the opportunity to teach them about God and who He is in those moments when their hearts and minds are ready to hear. I'd miss a lot of those times, if they were somewhere else. Some people think you're crazy for doing it, but it's in those precious times that you realize, it's worth doing a million times over.

It's finally offical!

So, by the time I get there, it will have been a year! Hard to believe time has gone by that fast...my very sweet husband is sending me to Cali for my birthday!!! I can hardly wait for the time to come (3 1/2 months and counting)! Of course the boys are coming with me...which should make the airport experience extra daunting...but, I've done it before so I know I can do it again! I'm so excitied to see my family! My mom comes out to CO every few months...but, I finally get to go home and see EVERYONE! And there are a few special events occuring while I'm there too, which makes it that much more exciting. My sister will be competeing in a figure competition! I'm so very proud of her for taking on the challenge and I can't wait to see her go for it. It'll be my birthday too, while I'm there! And I get to see my nieces and nephew.....it's been so long! Anyway, I won't bore you with any more, just thought I'd pass it on to all my Cali friends and family!!!! Can't wait to come "home"!

Ending 2007...

Well, this time of the year always gets me really excited...yes, I really do love to set goals for the year and I especially love to accomplish them! We got the joy of having Papa and Mimi in town with us!
The boys were counting down the days till their arrival and waiting for them to come on the day they were due, seemed to them, like years. Don't you remember that? Car trips, visitors, Christmas, birthdays, waiting in line for something....when you're little....it can't come fast enough! Well, needless to say, they all had a blast together. We took my dad (Papa) to the Bass Pro Shops...it was his first time visiting. It's amazing inside, even for me, the one that has been there religiously weekend after weekend for months now! I always see something I haven't seen before! The kids get to feed the fish on Saturdays and what boys don't like throwing innocent worms into the water to see some very hungry fish swallow it in a second....poor worm, doesn't even know what's happeneing before his life is over ;) !!!!
Shortly after they left, we were blessed with my friend Lisa visiting! It snowed like crazy, but we got lots of girl time and she got her fill of the boys.....bless her heart! We have had a full house of love, laughter and happiness! What more can you ask for this time of year? Here's some pictures of our fun times!
Wishing you all a very warm and happy Holiday Season! ~The Hummell's

Out of the mouths of babes...

So, it's Saturday morning. All is well in the Hummell household. The kids got up way to early. I'm getting used to it though. We made a fort, did some experiments with colors and evaporated milk (red/blue=purple...you get the idea!) They watched cartoons and helped me sort the socks (each sock became a puppet as we folded) they got a kick out of that...hey, you HAVE to make that chore fun. Mission accomplished!
It's been a good morning...the boys play really well together. I can tell when they need a break and some alone time though. It's like a symphony. Starts out quiet and mellow....slowly builds up volume and then BAM! Time for seperation. So, here's where my story begins...after that BAM! we had this morning Dawson proceeds to usher me to him, tells me to get down (to his level), "Come here mama, get down, I told you NO!"
Ahhh, yes my sweet little man was trying to discipline me. "Oh Dawson, it's a good thing you're so cute...."
Then to top it all off, I turn around to finish up what I'm doing and he picks up his little hot wheels car and goes over my rear end....repeatedly chantting, " BIG bump, BIG bump, BIG bump" .....thank you son, for the sweet reminder of what I've been trying go "get off" my whole life! So, here's to Dawson, for always being adorable and oh so honest with everyone who knows him! Hope you all enjoy your weekend!

Pumpkins!

This weekend we went to the Denver Botanical Gardens. Cam is overseeing a job there and the man he's working with got him some passes to all the gardens! The morning started off as if was going to snow...it was bitter cold....but, decieded to perk up and by early afternoon we took our trip! I was amazed at all the plants that actually grew here in this state. It reminded me so much of home (CA). Quite honestly, I didn't even want to start him...selfish on my part, just didn't want to deal with those "accidents"! None the less, big brother Zach has been encouraging and Dawson. Dawson does everything Zach does, so here's where the story begins.
Dawson is very independent and from the beginning refused to go on the potty I bought for him..."big potty" is what he demands! Not only that, but he won't let me help. If I could only tell you how entertaining it is to see a 2 year old, try to climb up on a toilet...he has all fours on the seat and does these splits when he sits down!
Moving on....
We had an accident at the park today, not a big deal, we went home and got him fixed up to play again. Well, a few minutes after that I began to smell...what smelled like dog poop. Thinking the boys maybe stepped in some, I went straight for the shoes by the door....nope, not the shoes.....I followed that foul odor right to my sweet little Dawson. "Dawson, did you poop?" "No po-po mama"....how an odor could come out of someone that adorable is beyond me! Not only had he pooped....it proceded to smear all over his legs. The smell alone was undescribable...let alone cleaning it all up!
WARNING....
When you think they "have it down..." they let you know they don't!
So, after two clean-ups, I thought I was done for the day...WRONG AGAIN!
A few minutes ago I went to check on some noise in the hall and low and behold....Zach is completely asleep, standing up and peeing on the side of his bed! Yes I kid you not....the poor kid is so worn out by the end of the day that when the lights go out....he's down for good. Apparently, he drank way to much before bed and here I was again, cleaning.
Long blog, I know....now, I'm "pooped" ;) Hope it made some of you laugh!

Breckenridge

We offically welcomed Fall in this weekend!
For years we have talked about going up to the mountains to look at the
awesome colors of the trees as they change! Hope you enjoy it!

A Summer Recap

This summer was quite busy for our little family. We didn't leave the state this year, except for business, we have sure had a lot of fun exploring it though! From our first ever camping adventure, to Buffalo Bills grave, to every hiking place in the foothills of the rockies.
We've added a member to the house as well to, our sweetest Auntie Brookie. The boys have made her feel right at home. They love her jewelry box and can't live without her teddy bear! We love having her here and getting to watch her belly grow! She's so very loved!
The weather has made an abrupt change....isn't it supposed to "gradually" grow a bit colder....we've gone from super hot 100's to freezing cold 50's....I guess that's part of the fun of living here! You just never fully know what you're going to get!
Zach started his "preschooling" here at home. He loves it and now 2 months into it is already asking...do I HAVE to do school right now mom? Dawson has enjoyed making a mess of the walls with the crayons while I'm not focused on him and the house as now got some added pizazz with his flare on it! Oh the joys!
I'm just thinking back on all that I'm grateful for! The chance to be at home with the boys has been so rewarding and I'm so tahnkful to have the opportunity to be here with them. Cam is an amazing daddy to them and is always, ALWAYS bringing home some animal that needs help or a home for a few days....3 legged frogs, birds that can't fly....we all await the arrivals of what's next...I "try" not to dread what may walk through the door with him....we're having a blast together as a family and look forward to the year ahead, with anticipation of all the the Lord has in store for us.

Zoo Crazy!

Well, Mimi is in town (my mom) and the boys are in heaven with all the attention their getting from her!
We went to the zoo yesterday and had such a blast! A blogspot for our little family! A spot to keep all our friends and family involved
in our lives no matter where you live!

Our summer has been eventful so far, as it can always be with anyone who has children...let alone BOYS!
We just came back from our first ever camping trip. It was Zachary's 4th Birthday and that's what he wanted to do! We had so much fun as a family! The boys were filthy about 10 minutes after we got there and it was nothing but fun and more dirt from then on. Hiking, running, collecting firewood, making s'mores and just soaking up some quality time together...it couldn't have been better!

Dawson is turning 2 next month!
